Supported File Types For Signs In TM2020

These file types will show up in-game in Trackmania 2020. (As of Jan 3 2026)

• WEBP
• WEBM
• PNG
• JPEG / JPG
• DDS
• OGG

TGA files are a bit tricky. The game accepted urls to TGA files, but only showed a black screen. Same in the media tracker.

Video Formats

• MP4
• AVI
• WebM
• QuickTime (MOV)

Audio Formats

• OGG / OGG Vorbis
• MP3

• WebM (audio)

Uploaded files of these types may get converted automatically. GIF is converted to webm, ICO is converted to png, and TIFF and AVIF are converted to webp. DDS files are unmodified, but will still get a WEBP thumbnail. DDS files are not currently supported for rendering in the web, so what you see for DDS files is the thumbnail. With WEBM being the only video format supported in Trackmania 2020, all uploaded video files will attempt to be converted into WEBM. Audio files follow the same upload process as other media types and will be converted to OGG format for compatibility with Trackmania 2020.

How to Upload

• Drag and Drop: Drag one or multiple files from your computer and drop them anywhere in the website. An overlay will appear to confirm.

Configuring Your Uploads

While your files are uploading/processing, you can configure the following settings for each file:

• Unlisted: Check this box to make the media unlisted. Unlisted media won't appear in public galleries but can still be accessed via direct link. This is so that maps don't break in the future.

• Sign Size: Choose the sign size format: 1x1, 2x1, 4x1, 6x1, or N/A. The system will automatically detect size from filenames containing these patterns (e.g., myimage_2x1.png).

• Sign Type: As with sign sizes, sign types can be detected from filenames, though that is less accurate. If your files have these names, then they will be recognized as those types:

  Directional Arrows:

  • up, up-right, right, down-right, down, down-left, left, up-left,

  Race Markers:

  • start, checkpoint, multilap, finish, gps

  Driving Actions:

  • accelerate, brake, drift, no-slide, neo-slide, jump, loop, speedslide

  Road Positioning:

  • road-center, road-outside, road split

  Turns & Maneuvers:

  • chicane left, chicane right, u-turn left, u-turn right, wallride left, wallride right

  Vehicle States:

  • fragile, no-steer, engine off, slowmo, no brakes, wet, cruise, reset, no grip

  Vehicles:

  • stadium car, desert, rally, snow

  Warnings:

  • caution, danger, wrong-way

• Collection: Click the collection icon button to add the media to one or more collections.

• Theme Pack: Click the theme pack icon button to add the media to a theme pack. If a media item has not had a selected sign size or sign type, it cannot be added to a theme-pack at this stage. You will have to first assign those values, or manually add that media item to your theme pack later, when editing your theme pack.
